S. 33) - Although the green background still is predominate, there is a definite increase in the checkerboard effect of the reds, yellow8 and browns reaching from the summits of the mountain slopes. For photography the best locations 9hould be at the Pinnacles, Hughes River Gap, Hemlock Spring, Pollock Knob, Crescent Rock and Hazel Top Ridge overlooks. As of now, it appears that the peak of color in this district might be reached between October 16 and 20. South (U. S. 33 to U. S. 250) - It is estimated that 52% of the trees in this district are in color at elevations above 1,800 feet. There are excellent mixed colors from most of the parking overlooka Predominant reds are Virginia creeper, dogwood, black gum, scrub oak, and black, white and scarlet oaks. Showing yellow are the tulip poplar, maple, ash, birch, sassafras, chestnut oak, lemon wood and locust.
