sale or other disposition will be made until at least 15 days have elapsed from the date that a notice of the impoundment is first published in a newspaper in the county in which the trespass occurs and posted at the county courthouse. The publication will include information as to public sale of the animal and other pertinent facts.
Prior to such sale the owner may redeem his animal on payment of incurred expenses. If not claimed by the owner the animal will go to the highest bidder providing the bid equals or is in excess of the costs incurred in capture and impoundment. Alternative action is prescribed should the bid not be acceptable. Charges to be levied against an owner or used to form a basis for an opening bid will include time spent by employee capturing the animal, transportation charges, feeding and damage to Government property caused by the animal while loose in the Park. Care and feeding costs will be $1 per day or fraction thereof. Shenandoah National Park is a sanctuary for wildlife of every sort and their protection against hunting, killing, wounding, frightening or capturing is required by law. All owners of dogs or other animals are asked once again by Hoskins to cooperate with Park officials in protecting the wildlife from hunters and dogs permitted to run loose in the Park.
