Batteries should be kept clean, free of corrosion, filled to the proper water level, and properly charged. A poorly charged battery will freeze, says Smith. Keep electrical connections tight for best results. Spark plugs and breaker points need periodic cleaning, adjusting and replacement for efficient engine operation.
