Culpeper Council Ticket
Mrs. Gladys Reid Bowie tallied the highest vote of all candidates seeking seats on the Culpeper Town Council in the election Tuesday. It is thought that she is the first woman ever elected to this council. Perhaps she had good! counseling before seeking office, since she is a former resident of Washington, Va.! where an all-woman council has held office since 1950. She is the daughter of Mrs. Charles G. Reid, was born in Flint Hill and reared In Washington. She is the wife of Bruce Bowie and with him was own-' er and publisher of the Rappahannock News before moving to Culpeper where they are proprietors of Bowie Print-i ing Co. Mrs. Bowie was educated in the public school of Rappahannock and was graduated fromj Madison College, Harrison-! burg with a B.A. degree in! English and History. She is a member of Washington Methi odist Church and attends the fellowship classes of the Culpeper Baptist Church Sunday: School. She is a past matron, of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 79 and is a pasc guardian/Of Join’s Daughters!
