The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department has ordered new lire fighting apparel which is scheduled to he delivers# this week, according to Fire Chief Joe Williams. The order included six hats, six pair df boots and six coats. This rural company, though it has grown steadily, is still operating with a minimum of supplies and equipment. ^An auction sale of donated articles was held Saturday and the proceeds will go toward equipment, said Mr. Williams. Anyone who wishes to donate or contribute to the company in any way is asked to contact the chief. Last week Chester Gap Fire Company was alerted to two large brush fires in the Blue Ridge Mountain Estates area where they stood by for several hours to prevent fire spreading to the mountain.
Kills Rattler
John S. Buckner of Sperryville killed a four-foot rattle snake Friday on his farm located in Broad Hollow. The reptile was stretched out in high grass and made no attempt to strike when Mr. Buckner .killed it with a mattock. It had 13 buttons on its tail. Contrary to popular belief, the number of buttons does not denote the age of the rattle snake.
