RAPPANANNOCK Hunt’s pointto-point races at Thornton Hill Farm near Sperryville have always been a crowd-pleaser, with the wild mountain setting and the unique hound race. But this year they should be better than ever because of the improvements to course and facilities and the alltime record number of entries, which reached 152 at press time before the closing date.
Changes in the course will make all fences—including several new ones—visible to the spectators. The road has been widened so that traffic will flow, more easily, and participants will be made especially welcome. According to race chairman Witold Kuncewicz, the trainers and riders will be provided with dressing, restroom and refreshment facilities in a “motor home” adjacent to the paddock, and there will be a water tank for the horses.
First of the nine races scheduled for Saturday, February 28, is the pair race with a post time of 11 a.m. Twenty teams from Warrenton, Blue Ridge, Casanova, Marlborough, Farmington, Old Dominion and Rappahannock Hunts have entered so far. Last year’s win
