AREA SHEEP CLINIC—Sheep producers and those interested in exploring the possibilities of raising sheep are invited to the Area Sheep Clinic, Graves Mountain Lodge, Thursday, March 4, noon to 3 p.m. Three of Virginia’s top sheepmen, George Allen, Bill Hess and Bill McClure, will discuss modern sheep production and demonstrate docking, castrating, vaccination, drenching and hoof trimming. The actual program doesn’t start until 1 p.m. but most of us are planning on being there at 12 for a “Dutch Treat” lunch and an informal visit with neighboring sheep producers. If you would like to join us for lunch, please call me by March 3 for reservations.
BULL SALE—The 18th Annual BCIA performance tested bull sale will be Friday, March 5, 10 a.m. at the Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises, four miles south of Culpeper on U.S. Route 29. Eightyeight. Angus, 25 Polled Hereford, two Charolais and three Simmental bulls will be auctioned off to the highest bidders. This sale offers one of the best opportunities in the State to buy a top performing bull, but even if you are not interested in buying a bull, it is a great opportunity to keep up with the beef cattle industry. As usual, some of the top performing bulls are consigned by county cattlemen: Ray Cannon, C.E. Johnson, Jr., Robert Anderson, D.D. Miller & Son, and Randall Updike.
BEEF CATTLE REFERENDUM—In order to qualify to vote in this years Beef Cattle Referendum, beef producers must fill in an eligible voter’s certification form and mail it to the Virginia Department of Agriculture by March 19, 1976. If you have not received a form in the mail by now, stop by the Extension Office and pick up one.
SOIL SAMPLES—We have just received notification that there will be a three to four week delay in receiving soil test results. Soil samples have been arriving at the soil testing laboratory at V.P.I. at the rate of 3,000 per day. □
