The Melrose Castle, a two and a half mile timber race for ladies, was next. It looked like a sure victory for Mrs. Redmond Toerge’s Orsinette Smile, with Joey Reuter in the irons. They landed on top over the last fence, but Patty Cassel on Never Delay came out of nowhere and caught them in the stretch. Susan Green and Casino, making their usual comefrom-behind run, hit the last fence and parted company. Betty Sue Grant of Genesee Valley Hunt, N.Y., was third.
