CASANOVA Hunt opened the Virginia point-to-point season with a flourish Saturday, February 21. About 8,000 spectators, the largest crowd in the meet’s 19-year history, watched eleven races (nine carded but two split) run over the perfect footing of Spring Hill Farm’s beautiful, rolling courses. Mild, spring weather brought forth a profusion of picnic baskets and children and dogs, adding to the festive country atmosphere.
Success was divided between veteran horses and riders and the many young and untried ones. In the Casanova Clothe owner-rider timber race which was run in two divisions because of a large entry, 15-year-old BHly Myers won the first division, breaking his maiden. Randolph Rouse, nearly four times Billy’s senior, won the second division to capture the Cup for the seventh time.
