Mrs. Virginia Thornhill, Mrs. Edna J. Payne and Mrs. Paul Karnes entertained with a birthday party in honor of their father, George Johnston, on Sunday at Mrs. Thornhill’s home. Those present were Mrs. Janet O’Keefe, Paul, Jeff and Steve Karnes of Culpeper, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Boyd of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Jones and Shannon of Flint Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Carpenter and Holly of Brightwood, Mrs. George Johnston, Ashby, Mary Jane and Linda Thornhill.

Mr. and Mrs. Willie Singleton and Mr. Singleton’s sister of Rixeyville were Sunday afternoon callers of the Rev. W. B. Dennis.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Atkins of Sperryville and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Frazier, Michele and Michael were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Frazier. Earlier, they all had visited Edgar Jenkins in Culpeper Memorial Hospital. Monday guests in the Frazier home were Mr. and Mrs. Holtzman Frazier of Fredericksburg.

Rescue

Notes

Mrs. Roy Sisk was taken from her home in Slate Mills to the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville on August 24 by the Sperryville Rescue Squad.

On September 4, the same unit took Beatrice and Michael Challis from a motorcycle accident on Route 211 west of Sperryville to Culpeper Memorial Hospital. The squad was also called to an automobile accident at the intersection of routes 231 and 707 on the same day, but their services were not used.

On September 5, W. H. Hart of Shenandoah was taken from a motorcycle accident on Route 211 east of Sperryville to Page Memorial Hospital by the Sperryville Rescue Squad.

Amissville Rescue Squad , took Benard Settle from ; Laurel Mills to Geest Funeral Home September 5. On the 3rd, Richard Bowie was taken from the fire house to Fauquier Hospital. Edgar Nalls was transported to the Fauquier Hospital from the Chilton Raiford home September 2 and Luther Settle was taken from Route 622 to University of Virginia, Charlottesville on the first. This unit took Vernon Boswell from a traffic crash at Jeffersonton to Fauquier, August 31 and Mildred Whorton was taken from the Estes residence on Route 229 to Culpeper Memorial Hospital, the same day.

Amissville Fire Company responded to a barn fire August 31 at the farm of Charlie Compton when lightning struck and destroyed the building. September 5 this unit went to the C.R. Walter farm near Ben Venue when lightning struck a tree and ignited it.
