Three companies of Rappahannock soldiers served in the 49th Regiment Virginia Infantry, Confederate Army. They were the ‘‘Flint Hill Riflemen”, Company E, enlisted June 16, 1861; the “Sperryville Sharpshooters”, Company K, enlisted June 18, 1861; and the ‘‘Rappahannock Rifles”, Company G, enlisted at Davis Barracks, Washington, Va., July 22, 1861.
