H»e theme of the show. Nostalgia, was carried out in the artistic classes with class I, "Hello, Come In,” which had as winners Jean McNear, Elizabeth E««e end Dorothy Estes: “Grandmother’s Hose Jar -rorence Williamson, Ches Chrism an and Florence Nordone, winners in that order.
The third class, “Pot of Tea,” awards went to Dolly Williamson, Florence Nordone and Dorothy Elates while “Company For Dinner,” and inter-club class had as first Francis .Fauquier Garden Club, Warren ton, Rappahannock Garden Club, second and South River Garden Club, Front Royal, third.
Grace Norvell, Dorothy Estes and Florence Williamson took the class, “Stroll Outdoors” and in the class for men only, “When I Was A Boy” was won by Maurice Herndon with C. E. Johnson, second and Cliff Sutherland, third. Honorable mention went to George Muth and Rex Lindstrom.
Horticultural specimens were limited since many flowers were past their prime of the season. Dorothy Estes had the only single peony exhibited. In the double peony variety awards went to Minnie Lee Summers, Dee Hume and Mildred Day. Bearded iris were exhibited by Helen Fairfax and Minnie Lee Summers and the beardless ones by Mildred Day and Lily Yowell.
Hybrid tea roses shown by Helen Holschuh, Mary Marocchi and Minnie Lee Summers received awards and in the spray of roses Byrd Jones and Lillian Bishop had entries. Columbine exhibited by Marjorie Exton. Collette Kemp and Dorothy Estes received awards while the class of three varieties had winning entries by Evelyn Green, Mildred Day and Lily Yowell. There were no entries in the shrubs class.
Mrs. Dorothy Estes and Mrs. C. E. Johnson were co-chairmen of the show; judges were Mrs. Sam Parker, Mrs. Richard Wickert and Mrs. Lynn Tribble, all of Charlottesville; clerks were Mrs. Virginia Wood and Mrs. Betty Jones. Howard Holschuh was photographer.
