Purchased services accounts for $29,948 of the raise. The county’s share of this category amounts to just $4,053. The rest is made up of donated funds.
Several budget requests presented to the Supervisors were cut before being included in the proposed county budget.
The Board of Zoning Appeals asked for $5,000 in its account to cover possible attorney fees. The Supervisors instead included the appropriation under “Board of Supervisors” along with an additional $2,000 to cover attorney fees for assistance given to Commonwealth Attorney George Davis in his revisions and review to the nmiiif' and subdivision' ordinances. Col. Luke explained that the Supervisors could appropriate part or all of the $5,000 to the BZA as it is requested.
County constitutional officers had all asked for a ten percent raise in salary. This was cut in the proposed budget to 6.8 percent and a letter sent from the Supervisors to the State Compensation Board recommending approval of the lower rate.
The Sheriff's Department request for an additional deputy was omitted from the proposed budget and the Library's request for an appropriation was cut. However, the county’s support of the library is up $200 over the previous year.
