In a previous letter to the Editor (June 8, T978) I questioned the basis in Virginia law for transferring Park land to private individuals. Now I find what appears to me to be a serious question concerning the basis in Federal law, as well.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965 was amended in 1977. It now includes the statement, ‘‘the Secretary (of the Interior) may not alienate property administered as part of the national park system in order to acquire lands by exchange.” (Alienate is a legal term meaning to transfer property to the ownership of another.)
It now seems to me that the proposed land swap between Park officials and Saddleback Associates is strictly illegal at both the State and Federal levels.

Last Thursday, while the Bloodmobile was in Washington, there was a generous response to the appeal for blood. This is to thank the 35 donors who took the time to help save a life. Grateful thanks to the volunteers who so willingly helped the nurses that day—Karen Bear, Gladys Havstad, Barbara Reid and Nancy Secrist. Appreciation also for the special efforts of Lucy Davis and Jenks Hobson.
