Jacobsen maintains that the paragraph was omitted by “typographical error” for the last three years. “We’re been assured it’s still in effect,” he stated.
According to the Legislative Services Office in Richmond, the paragraph was removed deliberately.
Jill Pope from the Office of Legislative Services reported that chapter 449 of the 1975 Acts of the General Assembly put the paragraph authorizing Park land exchanges into the Virginia Code.
Chapter 211 of the 1976 Acts of the General Assembly took the amendment out, according to Pope. “It strikes that language,” she said, indicating that the paragraph authorizing Park land exchanges was omitted deliberately and not by typographical error.
Five Previous Exchanges
Jacobsen said on Tuesday that he was aware of five other Park land exchanges that had taken place. H< added that two others an currently under consideration besides the proposed exchange of Rappahannock property. None of these seven involve land in the county, according to the Superintendent.
