Although Smith has placed well in other competitions this year on the Grand Prix circuit, she was not among the riders scheduled to leave for Europe Monday to compete on the United States Equestrian Team. Her disappointment at not being chosen was evident Sunday.
“They said the team would be selected from competition at three shows, and I was the only rider who placed at all three,” Smith said. “I would liked to have gone. They’ve (the USED only used me when they had to. I think they owe me an explanation,” she added.
