However, the same section of the ordinance prohibits any sign which "violates any provisions of the laws of Virginia relating to outdoor advertising." Also prohibited are any advertising signs "fastened, placed, painted, pasted or attached in any way to. in or upon any tree, fence, public utility pole, rock, curbstone, sidewalk, lamppost. hydrant, bridge, highway marker or any other sign."
In addition, signs for wayside stands are restricted to advertising only "farm or horticultural produce, livestock or services sold, produced, manufactured or furnished" on farms. This would appear to prohibit, under county law, signs advertising items such as "Tony's pizza." Also, signs permitted bv right are limited to less than 20 square feet in aggregate area.
