Luke noted that the School Board had presented the Supervisors in May with a $750,000 expansion plan for Rappahannock County High School.
“There are things in the plan that were not costed out,” he said, such as site survey and preparation, equipment and furnishings and improvements to the sewer system for the 10 room expansion that includes added space for library, cafeteria, bathrooms, storage and offices.
‘“There were no alternatives examined,” he continued. At the request of the Supervisors, the School Board did endorse a second option including only four new classrooms and improvements to library, bathroom and storage facilities, Luke noted. "But before we spend $750,000 of anybody’s money, we’ll have to have more than one alternative . . . That’s common sense,” he added.
Luke proposed that Baumgardner work with the School Board members and Supervisor representatives on developing several options for capital improvement programs at RCHS. Each option, he said, should include a complete room-byroom cost breakdown with estimates on everything from site preparation to furnishings.
