County, their eldest son was six years old. Now all four sons have grown up and have children of their own. In fact, they have fourteen among them, and Mrs. Graves even has a four week old greatgrandchild. She’s very proud of the fact that, before any other sons were married, three of them had never spent a night away from home in their lives.

Her family is obviously more than important to her, and it’s clear that before she had any jobs, she channelled all her energies into her home life. But having a family isn't easy, and Mrs. Graves has watched one of her sons develop a bone deteriorating disease which has left him disabled and very ill. But she says that she doesn’t let herself think about it too much. Instead, she fills her time with her job and chores around the house, and her flowers and garden. She was painting the ceilings single handedly the day I called on her.
