Farm Show, July 26-30, at Culpeper Agriculture Enterprise on Rt. 29 about four miles south of Culpeper. The categories are food preservation, baked goods, clothing, handicrafts, garden fruits and vegetables and flowers. Ribbons are awarded to the winners. An entry fee of $1 will be charged to each exhibitor. Let’s see how many ribbons Rappahannock can bring home! Call the Rappahannock or Culpeper Extension Office for entry blanks.
If you have planted the new Sugar Snap Pea, remember to not overcook which will ruin the prized 'crunchy texture. Canning would cause a softening of the pod which would be undesirable so freezing is the best way to preserve the peas.
To freeze, wash and string. Break into pieces of desired size or if small, leave whole. Blanch in boiling water for 2 minutes. Chill, Drain, package, label and freeze as you would other vegetables.
