The VPI Extension Office and the Rappahannock County Library will combine forces this summer in offering an hour of constructive fun for youngsters every Wednesday. From 10 to 11 a.m. beginning June 20, the library will have story hour for preschoolers while extension agent Nancy Secrist holds a film festival for kids six years and older at Trinity Episcopal Church parish hall.
The first showing will be “The Adventures of Nils” based on one of the classics of children’s literature. The film presents a picture of Sweden as seen through the fairy-tale adventures of a little boy who is transformed into a elf. He joins a flock of wild geese and becomes their friend. Traveling around Sweden he has many adventures and several narrow escapes. When he finally returns home, restored to his original size, Nils is a changed boy who will never again be unwilling to do his share of work and never again be cruel to animals.
The summer film festival will also present “Adventure in the Hopfields” on June 27, “Runaway Railway” on July 4, “Rabbit Hill” on July 11, "Roy, Sheep Dog of the Scottish Highlands”, “Norwegian Fjord," and “Tin Tin Tin” on July 18, "Mexican Boy-The Story of Pablo,” “Many Moons” and “Trail Ride” on July 25, “The Red Balloon” on August 1 and “Adventures of Baby Fox,” "Adventures of Willie Skunk,” “The Hoarder” and “Pony Penning on Chincoteague” on August 8.
