With gasoline prices rising rapidly, consumers may be faced with unfamiliar methods of pricing and selling gasoline at retail service stations.
Most gasoline pumps cannot be set for more than 99.9 cents per gallon. Although SI a gallon gas hasn’t reached Rappahannock County yet, stations are now charging between 80 and 90 cents and it appears that the $1 mark may be reached during summer.
Prices have risen so rapidly within the past six months that there has not been sufficient time to prepare for and convert equipment to accommodate pricing over SI per gallon.
The Weights and Measures Section of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has evaluated the problems with equipment manufacturers, service station operator representatives and others and has announced a plan to temporarily deal with the problem.
