beer on the premises, he replied, “I would like to apply for a beer license at a later date”, but he made it clear that under no circumstances does he wish to turn the restaurant into a beer hall. Any beer served, he emphasized, will be served only with meals. It was asked whether the restaurant would be equipped with pool tables. St. Clair said that it would not.
St. Clair has already: been granted verbal permission by the Health Department to open a restaurant on his property, but the council desires that he do nothing until he has obtained a written permit.
Peter Kramer, near the close of the meeting, mentioned that he would be presenting an application for restoration of the old mill for private businesses to the Rappahannock Planning Commission at a public hearing on Wednesday. He said that, whether the mill were inside or outside the town boundaries, its restoration would affect the town of Washington itself. He asked what the council thought of his plans - were they in support or not?
Council member Dorothy Hawkins proposed a motion in support of restoration of the mill, which was supported and passed. Mayor Newbill Miller, who is himself on the County Planning Commission, abstained from making any comment.
Council member Dorothy Hawkins then mentioned that due to recent increased use, the playground needs mowing much more frequently. She also pointed out that many of the street signs need repainting, and some in fact need repairing. Some of the swings in the playground are also in need of repair, she said.
Peter Kramer suggested that an advertisement be printed in an attempt to locate some of the missing street signs, thus sparing the perhaps needless expense of making new sings when the old ones can, in some cases, be located. Those which do have to be remade can be done by the 4th of July, Kramer estimates.
