Match is the last month of the 1980 general enrollment period for people who failed to sign up for Medicare medical insurance.
There’s a general enrollment period during the first 3 months of each year. Also eligible to enroll at this time are people who once had medical insurance but who dropped this protection.
Medical insurance protection will start July 1, 1980, for people who sign up during this period. The basic premium for medical insurance is $9.60 starting July 1. The basic premium is increased by 10 percent for each 12 months a person could have had this protection but did not.
The premium paid by those with medical insurance represents less than one-third of the cost. The remaining amount is paid by the Federal Government from general revenues.
Medical insurance helps pay for doctors’ services, outpatient hospital services, and other medical items not covered by the hospital insurance part of Medicare.
