(that stipulates car use)?” asked Eastham.
‘‘No sir,” McDaniel replied, adding that the car arrangement was verbal.
Designated Pamper
After receiving confirmation that the car offer had been made during employment negotiations, Eastham offered another proposal for a “designated gas pumper.” In order for conservation measures to be effective, he maintained, gas must be added to both buses and cars by someone other than the driver of the vehicle. "That gas must be controlled at the pump.” he insisted. Eastham’s motion to have the superintendent name a gas dispenser passed four to one with Masterson opposed.
The board also voted to allow $2 per gallon for unleaded gas. Bloomer noted that his estimate of 4,000 gallons was a reduction over current usage of 6,000 gallons allowed in this year’s budget.
Questioned about the need for 20 gallons of unleaded gas per day, described by Masterson as “excessive,” Bloomer said that the driver ed car often used an entire tank in one day while this line item also covered gas used by administrators for recruiting trips and to attend conferences.
