The company projected $60,000 plus cost of clerical help, office space and payment to a local board of assessors to do the same job for Rappahannock, according to Mrs. Scoggin. She noted that this company won’t appraise here unless the county also makes the switch to computerized tax and reassessment records at the same time.
Supervisor Dick Latham asked if the county should use a local board of accessors to work with the professional appraiser or have an equalization board review assessments before new figures become final.
If the county chooses to go with a 1 local board of assessors, said Luke, the supervisors should reconsider the position they’ve adopted in the past to exclude real estate business persons from serving as members.
Hubert Gilkey added that all five members of an assessor board should be required to work with the appraiser in all areas of the county. (Law calls for at least three members of a five member local board of assessor to accompany the
