The Rappahannock Welfare Department learned this week that it might not be meeting the food stamp needs of this community.
New federal regulations require a local assessment and if deficiencies are found, a corrective action plan must be written. Improved delivery of food stamps could involve such changes as Saturday office hours or night hours, greater outreach efforts, a different method of issuance or several issuahce locations.
Mrs. Elizabeth Buntin, the superintendent, of the department said that her office is open forty hours a week and that since the food stamp worker begins work at 7:30 a.m., there is someone available to take applications eight and one half hours a day each week day.
The agency has had a mail issuance system for stamps since the beginning of the program in this county in July 1974. A few households with special problems or emergency situations are allowed to pick up their stamps at the office.
