Undemocratic
To the editor:
Rappahannock County uses a grossly undemocratic means to select its School Board. This results in undemocratic representation. The Trustee Electoral Board appoints the School Board .members for four terms. The Electoral Board consists of only three persons appointed by the Circuit Judge. They serve for three years, but one member cannot even remember when first appointed: it exceeds two decades due to routine reappointments. Despite his good will, this is not good politics. The new Circuit Judge, Shore Robertson, is not even from this area; he must use hearsay for future appointments and the tradeoffs begin. The House of Delegates and Senate in Richmond appoint the Circuit Judges for eigh* years. The average person has no impact on this system. »
