Baumgardner reported on Monday that the Attorney General claims the state has authority to divest the county of ABC revenue. Also, said Baumgardner, the Attorney General ruled that “failure to reassess property on schedule would, in and of itself, be an unconstitutional act of the board.”
After rechecking the Virginia code, Baumgardner confirmed that the county can wait until 1981 to begin its reassessment instead of starting the process this year.
