During her recent visit to Rappahannock schools, regional special education supervisor Kathleen Kerry informed the school board that anticipated enrollment for 1980-81 of educable mentally retarded students and learning disabled resource students constituted too much of a class load for asingle teacher to handle. Last year, one teacher, endorsed only in EMR, taught the mentally retarded youngsters in the morning and the learning disabled resource students in the afternoon.
Bloomer’s recommendation included a learning disabled teacher for the 15 students already identified in that category. The class will be housed in the divided modular unit with $158 required for additional desks and chairs.
