Circuit Court Hugh P. Grigsby, who pled guilty to felonious assault, was sentenced by circuit court judge Shore Robertson on Monday to 12 months in jail. Robertson suspended all ^ but 75 days with the time to be served on work release. Grigsby was also ordered to pay a $200 fine and $74.50 in court costs and placed on supervised probation for three years. In other cases, Robertson set trial dates of September 11 for John Marshall Barbour on charges of driving under the influence, Timothy Wayne Burke on a misdemeanor appeal of reckless driving, September 29 for Lonnie Gene Clatterbuck on appeal of convictions for driving under the influence, failure to stop for a police officer and driving on an expired license and Harry Michael Lyle for a misdemeanor appeal on speeding charges.
Hearing date for a right-ofway issue between Lucy Catheryn Triplett and Walter B. Schilling was set for October 23. Charges of no county tag and no Virginia registration against William Edward Duncan were nolle prosequi by the commonwealth’s attorney.
Benefit Barbecue
There will be a chicken barbecue dinner Saturday. July 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chester Gap carnival grounds. Prices are $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12. Proceeds will benefit the Chester Gap Ruritan Club.
