Rising Rappahannock Senior. Jona McKay was one of % students selected from high schools all across Virginia to participate in the nation’s first annual Model Executive Conference held in Richmond during July 6-10.
The conference, initiated by Lieutenenat Governor Charles S. Robb, was designed to give selected high school students an opportunity to simulate the executive branch of government. Managed by the Virginia Y.M.C.A. and aided by the Political Science Department of the University of Richmond, the conference challenged its participants with controversial questions such as these: Are we really preparing our teachers to teach? . . . Should our teachers have more in-service training before they enter the classroom? . . . Should teachers have to take a compentency test every two or 20 years?
