Madison County reported the greatest decline in housing activity with 67 per cent. Fauquier also experienced a greater decline—43 per cent—than did Rappahannock. Culpeper with 37 per cent and Orange with 23 per cent both showed an -increase in approved new housing units. Culpeper’s increase was largely the result of a townhouse complex authorized in April, according to the planning district statistics.
Over the first six months of 1980. 388 housing units were authorized in the five-county district. This represents a 31.9 per cent decline from the S70 units authorized during the first half of 1979.
