Bankston and former Rappahannock warden Irvin Kenyon moved the trap there—the same location where they'd left it last year w ith no luck.
This time, however, the bear yielded to the tempting aromas of the Hudson ham, Bankston’s bait of choice. The game warden found him staring out woefully between the bars on Friday morning.
“He was a very old bear. His teeth were all worn and broken,” Bankston said. Usually the wardens make an age determination by counting the rings in a tooth. "We didn’t take one from that old bear. He didn't have enough!” Bankston chuckled. “We just put a tag in his ear and turned him loose.
He was killing livestock only because it was so easy. He had been eating the slops in the pig pen and must have killed a pig and gotten a taste, then kept on doing it
