For the second part of our adventure, members of the National and Washington Press Clubs had a choice (to be made before leaving home) of three five-to-six-day tours of northern India. Because of the vast size of the country—equal to a third of the U.S.A. including Alaska—none of these tours took our people to the south. The most southerly points reached, in fact, were Puri on the east coast, south of Calcutta, and Bombay on the west—both only a little more than half way down the country, so to speak, from extreme north to extreme south.
