Gray testified that he both fed and watered his dogs and had neighbors who would testify to the good treatment he gave his animals. He denied telling Fox to cut the nipples off the mother dog and said he'd delayed worming the puppies because he felt they had to be older before treatment. The mother dog. he added, had been both wormed and innoculated.
“Sunday morning, the dogs were normal. There were no sick dogs at my house.” Gray maintained. He said the mixed female had never been a big dog. “When she had puppies it pulled her down that much more," he stated.
Deborah Gray repeated that the dogs were fed and watered every day. "I myself love little puppies. My little boy was outside playing with them that Sunday morning."
Mrs. Gray said the mother had received her shots at a year old and had been recently treated with medicine for hook and round worms purchased at a pet store.
Barbara Settle, the Grays’ next door neighbor, said that to the best of her knowledge, the couple took good care of their dogs. She added that the mixed female had always been a “real small dog”.
