EXPERIMENTAL
DISCOUNTED TOLL RATES
After hearing, in December, 1979, the Commission approved on an experimental basis, optional discounted rates for direct dial calling between proximate exchanges demonstrating sufficient community of interest. This optional service, offered by several telephone companies, is called Circle Calling.
Central Telephone Company of Virginia offers Circle Calling in 6 of its 56 exchanges meeting the community of interest standard set for the experimental service offering. A listing of these exchanges and the points that can be called can be obtained at the local Business Office of the Telephone Company.
The State Corporation has scheduled a hearing on December 8, 1980, commencing at 2:00 p.m. for the purpose of hearing from the public on whether the experimental Circle Calling service should remain in effect on a permaneht basis.
Central Telephone Company of Virginia will file a report in the proceeding stating its experience under the Circle Calling service. Copies of this report will be available at the State Corporation Commission, Document Control Center, Floor Bl, Blanton Building, Richmond, Virginia; and at all business offices of Central Telephone Company of Virginia after November 17,1980.
On or before November 24, 1980, all persons who expect to participate at the public hearing as a party Protestant to offer evidence and to cross-examine witnesses must file with the Commission a Protest strictly conforming to the provisions of Rule 5:16 (b) of the Commission's Rules of Practice and Procedure and must simultaneously serve a copy thereof on Central Telephone Company of Virginia and all other parties.
All interested persons who desire to make a statement at the hearing on Circle Calling service, and not participate as a party protestant in the proceeding, may appear in the Commission's Courtroom at 2:00 p.m. on December 8, 1980, and complete an appearance form as provided by the State Corporation; or such interested persons may mail a written statement to William C. Young, Clerk, State Corporation Commission, Document Control Center, P.0. Box 2118, Richmond, Virginia 23216, making reference to Case No PUC 790006.
