Virginia’s Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District won top honors in the 33rd annual Goodyear Conservation Awards Program. The first place district was selected by the state judging committee on the basis of its accomplishments in resource management, Ray Oviatt, awards program director, announced in Akron, Ohio.
The Culpeper District comprises the counties of Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock with district headquarters in Culpeper. The district is a legal political subdivision of the State of Virginia with responsibility for protecting the land, water, forest and wildlife resources.
The five-county District is governed by a board of 12 directors, 10 of whom are elected in the general election and two appointed at large by the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Commission. The district has one associate director. Directors receive no compensation for their services.
