High Bid
Taken back by a single bid of $2,288, the supervisors agreed to delay a decision on installation of gasoline bulk storage tanks at the school bus garage until after superintendent of schools William Bloomer attempts to secure additional offers. The installation estimate raises the total price for the tanks to $6,412.
Luke described the installation bid as a turn-key operation which will include setting the asphalt-covered tank in sand, backfilling with more" sand, wiring for electricity, hooking up galvanized pipes and covering the tank with six inches of stone. "When you add all that in, the bid’s not that high," he said.
Luke added that it would be impractical for the supervisors to . subcontract the. job nut tP„one individual .to haul the sand, another to backhoe and another to wire the electrical pump to the tank.
“It sounds like right much to me,” countered H. B. Wood, suggesting that since the project has waited years after first being proposed by the school board, another month won’t hurt. The board authorized Luke to award a contract for installation after Bloomer tries first to get additional bids.
In other action, the board issued a bingo permit to the Sperryville Fire Company to run weekly games from June 30 to July 4, dates for next year’s carnival. According to the report to the supervisors, the fire department had quarterly receipts of SS76, $675, $602 and $545 from last year’s bingo games.
