carried four of the county’s precincts—Amissville, Flint Hill, Sperryville and Woodville. Only Washington and Chester Gap went for Carter. Of the total 2,367 votes cast in the presidential race, Reagan took 49 per cent. Carter 44 per cent and Anderson 4 per cent. The Rappahannock News poll conducted by random telephone sampling of registered voters two weeks before the election showed Carter ahead with 41.5 per cent, Reagan with 30 per cent and a whopping 22 per cent still undecided. Once at the polls, most of those undecideds apparently opted for the Republican.
Representative J. Kenneth Robinson running unopposed in the 7th Congressional District was elected to a sixth term. In Rappahannock, unofficial returns gave the Republican incumbent 2,027 votes.
