Father Augustine came to Boston after 30 years of teaching at St. Francis Seminary in Pennsylvania. Father Ronald was one of his students there along with the Franciscans’ current minister general, the order’s worldwide head in Rome, tivery four years, the friars elect a provincial head and a council to govern the order for four years. ’’They’re our own local,” chuckled Father Ronald.
The friars all asked to come to Boston. “No one is assigned here unless they first asked to come,” Father Ronald emphasized. After a request for transfer to the ritiro, friars stay for 30 days. ‘‘Then they go home. If they want to continue, they must apply again,” with the understanding that the commitment is for ait least a full year, Father Ronald explained.
