Sursum Corda School and Day Care Center is expanding its services to include several new support outlets for parents.
Parents are invited to visit the school each Friday for coffee hour from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Free coffee and baked goods are served, and parents have an opportunity to intermingle and talk with one another about their children.
For single parents, or the “at-home” parent who has little feedback from other parents, this is a time when child-rearing joys and problems can be shared.
Each Monday as parents drpp off .their children, they, check the Parent Bulletin Board for the Parent-“Free Lunch Winner of the Week”. Winners are invited to use their two-month passes to enjoy one of Sursum Corda’s nutritious meals.
Visiting the school during lunchtime gives parents the opportunity to see first-hand how their child relates to other children and adults, and how wholesome eating habits are encouraged by the school staff.
Sursum Corda is also sponsoring a series of presentations on parentrelated issues at its ParentTeacher meetings, which are held every two months.
Mrs. Lynn Baines, a seventh grade teacher at Rappahannock County Elementary School and president of the Rappahannock County Education Association, spoke at the December 9 meeting on Discipline and Children. Also featured was Rusty Harris, a counselor at the Rappahannock Mental Health Clinic, who specializes in child development. Mr. Harris addressed a variety of issues raised by his audience, and involved the parentteacher group in discussion
