The First Nativity Scene
The birth of Christ will be re-enacted this week in Nativity scenes put on by churches and communities around the world. St. Francis, the founder of the Franciscan order, originated this tradition, according to Father Ronald.
"St. Francis had an incredible love of Jesus, just incredible. He walked around just saying the name ‘Jesus,’ joyfully, joyfully," Father Ronald said. Francis wondered what the birth of the savior had been like, and so two or three years before his death in 1224, he found a cave and with straw and donkeys set up a manger, according to the friar.
