Food Stamps

The Virginia Department of Welfare has announced that the United States Department of Agriculture is making changes in the Food Stamp Program affecting deductions and maximum coupon allotments.
These changes, effective January 1, 1981, are:
-the standard deduction for households will be increased from $75 to $85.
-the shelter-dependent care deduction will be increased from $90 to $115.
-the maximum coupon allotment will also be increased. For example, the allotment for a one preson household will increase from $63 to $70; for a four person household from $209 to $233.
There will be no change in the maximum amount of income allowed per household. However, because of the increases in deductions, persons who were formerly slightly over the income level may be eligible to receive food stamps after January 1, 1981.
