In State Senator Nathan Miller's 27th Senate District which includes Rappahannock, the population is 8.73 per cent over the maximum for representation. Beard noted. "That district may lose a county," he said, guessing that the logical area to cut out would be part or all of Madison County.
The population for his House District is 6.15 per cent too high, according to preliminary counts. Beard said. “But I doubt if there will be any change here.”
Beard expects redistricting to at least begin during the short session with preliminary census counts used as the basis for apportionment. In addition, the legislature will reconvene on the sixth Wednesday following its February 21 adjournment for a special session. “I’m sure all we’ll do is redistricting,” Beard said.
