The Virginia Ballet Company will present a full length production of Tchaikovsky’s classic The Nutcracker at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Fauquier High School auditorium.
More than ISO colorfully costumed dancers will perform in the Christmas fantasy that has become a holiday tradition. Alan Kriegsman of the Washington Post terms it “a production notable for its charm, taste and expertise.”
A member of the corps de ballet is Melissa Lyons, a 17year-old junior at Fauquier High School, who has been with the Springfield-based company for almost seven years.
The troupe’s directors Tania Rousseau and Oleg Tupine have notable backgrounds. Rousseau has danced with several French companies and Jupine was a principal with two successor troupes to the Diaghilev Ballets Russe.
The production is sponsored by the Fauquier Chapter of the Virginia Museum and the Northern Counties Lumber Company of Upperville.
General admission is S3, children S2.5Q, and special rates are available for groups and senior citizens.
