Eager to focus attention on their campaigns before the start of the General Assembly session Jan. 14, three men long expected to run for statewide offices in Virginia next year formally announced their candidacies within the last week.
State Sen. Nathan H. Miller, R-26th, and former Portsmouth mayor Richard J. Davis, who resigned last ■ month as the state Democratic chairman, both said Monday they will vie for their parties’ nominations for lieutenant governor.-*
Meanwhile, former Fairfax Del. Wyatt B. Durrette, who lost the Republican nomination for attorney general to J. Marshall Coleman in 1977 by one of the closest margins in state history, announced Friday that he will again seek the state’s third highest office.
The announcements mark the beginning of formal campaigning for next November’s election for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. Former Tazewell Del. Donald Dunford, who is running for lieutenant governor, is the only other announced candidate thus far, but it is
