Rappahannock %*w» Staff Writer After its regular monthly meeting last Wednesday, the Washington Town Council met with John Capelle, Director of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Plan* ning District Commission, to take a first look at the draft of a subdivision ordinance prepared by the Commission for the town. Wednesday’s work session was the first of several that will be held by> »tWfc comeDIwfiR artiapahfgi; a public hearing on the ordinance.
Capelle began the session by showing the council a map of the town that is part of the subdivision ordinance draft Mayor Newbill Miller said that, except for tax maps, this was the first official map of Washington since 1896. “This really shows our need for a subdivision ordinance,” said Miller, referring to the amount of open space on the map. There was a general agreement among council members present on the need for this ordinance.
The ordinance draft, which Capelle said was standard for towns of this size, was reviewed by Capelle, who went over each item and answered questions from council members about the meaning and impact of each part of the ordinance.
