Following complaints on noise, traffic, litter, etc. from neighboring landowners after the NPEA’s 1979 camp meeting, the county’s board of zoning appeals issued a temporary variance to the association for its 1980 comp meeting. A round of legal maneuvering followed with a restraining order issued by Judge Robertson, challenged by NPEA attorneys and upheld by the Virginia Supreme Court.
The 1980 camp meeting went off as scheduled and legal actions continued, culminating recently in a request to Robertson from the county, asking the Judge to rule on the validity of the zoning ordinance’s residential subdivision section. With briefs field by both sides, a decision was expected from Robertson sometime this month.
