Operation CARE will be in effect during Memorial Day weekend on Virginia highways. the State Police Department says.
CARE is an acronym for Combined Acqident Reduction Effort, a statesponsored national program to reduce motor vehicle accidents, injuries and fatalities on three major holiday weekends—Memorial Day. July 4 and Labor Day.
The Virginia program involves increasing the number of troopers patrolling certain sections of interstate, primary and secondary roads when .statistical information indicates high traffic volume and high accident frequency can be anticipated.
“While the national effort has generally concentrated on interstate highways.” said Colonel D. M. Slane.
